My work explores the interplay between past and present, and how memory shapes and reshapes the stories we tell about ourselves and each other.  Stories emerge and morph into something unexpected through the building up and wiping back of layers. Each piece becomes a palimpsest of lost and found moments, with an open-ended narrative.

I work in a variety of mediums: oil and/or acrylic on canvas and paper, water colour and Indian ink, and analogue and digital collage. I also create digital composites through the layering of photos of my paintings (at various stages of development), and/or digital photos from my archive. My reference material ranges from found images to old family photos, and my own photography.

I am interested in how the figure/ground relationship and the picture plane, is affected by colour, value, form, space, composition and perspective. I am also drawn to the historical and contemporary relationship between photography and painting, and exploring the harmony and dissonance between them.
